PICO MACCARIO - Mombaruzzo, Asti, Piemonte
About the Winery
Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Mombaruzzo, Piemonte, on a sprawling 100-hectare estate, the tales of of Pico Maccario Winery began in 1997, in the heart of the Barbera d’Asti DOCG appellation. The journey of the brothers Pico and Vitaliano Maccario is marked by the great passion inherited from their family. The winery is a symbol of modernity both in the vineyards management and the production of wines: the aim is that of reaching the highest possible quality through a precious teamwork, which always begins in the vineyard, and continues to the cellar, crafting wines ready to express their strong identity. Embracing advanced techniques to nurture their vineyards and bring a spirit of innovation, Pico Maccario it's more than a winery; it's a testament to modern wine-making excellence.
Over 900 unique “Pencils Poles” in 22 different colors demark Pico Maccario vineyards, bringing joy and color to this outstanding territory recognized by UNESCO since 2014. Additionally, the presence of 4,500 rose plants of the same cloned variety in front of every vineyard row have a dual function: marking the beginning of each row and, following a traditional practice, signaling vine-threatening diseases before they have a chance to cause damage. The iconic colored wooden cases became a “must” over the years. Exclusive “pencil containers” with strong design impact are also part of their creative process – a unique design object complementing the mood in your cellar or at home.
Nowadays the Pico Maccario estate is composed of the original vineyards in the traditional Monferrato Astigiano area, and over the last years they acquired in the Langhe prominent parcels of Nebbiolo vineyards in Neive, Serralunga d’Alba and Barolo, including the prestigious “Cannubi” single vineyard, well-known and recognized as the oldest of Italy (from 1752), as well one of the most important in the world.
Authentic, creative and eclectic soul at the service of wine-making excellence. Meet the colorful world of Pico Maccario !
